Education can make all the difference.
We believe that education turns walls into doors of opportunity.
ACT Prep Classes - $105
United Way of Athens-Limestone, in partnership with the Athens State University’s Center for Lifelong Learning, offers a discounted ACT Prep Class. Students may choose to be tutored in math, science, and/or English/reading. The ACT Prep Class costs $65 for one subject, $90 for two subjects, or $105 for all three subjects; all students are provided with an ACT Prep book. Scholarships are available to eligible students to cover the cost of the classes.
College & Career Classes
United Way, in partnership with Athens State University Center for Lifelong Learning and other agencies, offers Career and College Classes for both students and parents. The Career and College Workshop is designed to present available options upon graduation. The Career and College Seminar is designed to educate parents of high schoolers about college and career options for their student, along with financial planning for their student’s next steps.
Internship
Education is a United Way priority. Because of this, we offer internships for high school and college students. This program allows students to get career and volunteer experience, giving them an advantage when looking for jobs. Any student in need of an internship can contact the United Way office to schedule an interview.
Educational Workshops
Education is the difference between open doors and walls when building a successful future. Studies show that individuals with education beyond high school earn significantly more and are self sustaining over the course of their lifetime. This is one of the reasons your United Way is committed to educational opportunities.
Stuff the Sleigh
Stuff the Sleigh is a program that provides books and school supplies to underprivileged children in our community. During the late fall, we begin collecting new and gently used books for children ages birth – 12 years, along with new school supplies. These donations will be added to the toy bags for families who sign up for Toys for Tots.
Toys for Tots
United Way of Athens-Limestone County, through our partnership with the United States Marine Corp., assists families in need to provide their children with Christmas gifts. New toys for newborns – age 12 are collected and then distributed to eligible families who sign up for the program.
